GRE ISSUE ESSAY
"Scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other area-can be useful.
They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer
ever could."
Scandals exist in every society whether it is related to a
person or society. Scandals can be useful in politics, media or academia by
various ways. They show how the scandalous person, politics or academia can
promote them by the help of those scandals.
For an example, a scandal happened in a political party,
this create a great publicity of them which is most required in politics during
an election, this can be useful for one and at the same time not useful to
another. After a scandal the political party can now see the problems and then
be more cautious in future so, that these things will not happen again. In this
sense scandals can be useful as the person or political party or whoever is
involved can know their weakness and in future, they can correct them.
Also, in media scandals can be useful. For example: a
actress is not so popular among public and suddenly some media knew a scandal
about her, now this scandal can make her popular. Previously unknown actress
after the scandal will be popular as the scandal attracts more and more people
which creates her publicity. In media all the actors who are not so well known
in some part of time will create scandals so that the people will not forget
them.
Besides these people create scandals and expose themselves
for various reasons like revenge over someone, denigrate someone and many
others. These scandals are also not useful in many cases but as these scandals
generally occur in media and politics there is more benefit than loss as the
person gets into the eyes of many people. People most often create these things
and expose themselves in order to get popularity among the public.
Also, the negative aspects include loss of dignity of a
particular group or particular people, this can lead to serious problems in
future. Some scandals can be fake which in made only to denigrate others such
things can badly harm the person or whatever is involved.
Finally, to conclude all things have good and bad aspects.
Here the scandals are useful mostly in media and politics though these create a
bad image over someone or something this also create a environment to focus on
the problems.
