GRE ARGUMENT

“MANNED SPACE FLIGHT IS COSTLY AND DANGEROUS. MOREOVER, THE RECENT SUCCESS OF A SERIES OF UNMANNED SPACE PROBES AND SATELLITES HAS DEMONSTRATED THAT A GREAT DEAL OF USEFUL INFORMATION CAN BE GATHERED WITHOUT THE COSTS AND RISKS ASOCIATED WITH SENDING MEN AND WOMEN INTO SPACE. THEREFORE, WE SHOULD INVEST OUR RESOUCES IN UNMANNED SPACE FLIGHTS.”

The argument is about investing resources in unmanned space flight instead of manned space flight because manned flight is costly and dangerous. This argument is not a good argument because the conclusion is not made based on the evidence.
Firstly, the argument does not specify what kind of information is gathered by manned and unmanned space flights. Unmanned space flights may not provide the same kind of information that manned space flights. As man can look and analyze the things better, we cannot claim that manned flights will provide more useful information.
Secondly, the argument shows no data of previous years information gathering. If the argument has provided the data and evidence of previous years then the argument would be better. When all the data and evidence are provided the argument will be better due the evidence presented.
Thirdly, the argument provides no information on specific type of information gathered by the space flights. The argument should provide the type of information gathered by manned and unmanned flights.
Fourthly, there also may be risks associated with the use of unmanned space flights and also that may be costly too. The argument provides no information about the risks and costs associated with use of unmanned space flights. If the argument provided information about the risks and costs involved in unmanned space flights then this argument would be better.
Last but not the least the argument provides no information about data about cost and type of risks associated on the space flights. If the argument would provide exact data about these the argument, the argument would be better.
Thus, this argument is bad argument which lacks some specific data and evidence which when added in the argument will make the argument better like the data from previous years and the risks and cost associated with both types of flights.
